Weekly Wine(d) Up!
Take a glimpse below at one of my wine and food pairings from this weekend for inspiration with your next meal!
A very long, short weekend if you catch my vibe! I always feel like when there are so many plans on a holiday weekend it goes by so quickly but then when you’re at the end of the weekend you feel like it has been 7 years…or is that just me? Lol. This weekend was a good one though! We had lots of burgers and hot dogs, so many delicious dips (give me a good dip or honestly any type of snacking food and I’m a happy gal), lots of fantastic rosè, and two dinners out. Let me just say the one we are talking about today was TOP NOTCH and such a great kick-off to the weekend!
First, the food…
Two words: Birria Pizza. Two words combined together that made the decision for dinner Thursday night the quickest I have ever decided what to do for dinner. One thing about me: I looove a little dipping action (I literally told you I love dips above lol) and Birria is the tastiest and most satisfying dipping food around. If it’s on a menu, odds are I’m getting it so when my fav spot in conshy Bar Sera (iykyk) had this as a pizza I was like say less and decided how we were kicking off the weekend. This was not the only thing we got though. The Pieri Hospitality Group slaaays the calamari game. This is not just your typical bland calamari served with a side of lukewarm marinara. No. This scrumptious calamari has not one but TWO sauces on it and then they have the crispiest and most flavorful battered calamari. Pro tip: try this calamari and then try the one at Stone Rose and have yourself a good time. They just work so well and I will never be the same. I honestly did not like calamari at all before and now when we go to either of these restaurants, it’s an automatic hell yes. “Give me 15 of em right now” type of vibes. Last but not least, we got their special as another app which were oysters. I truly am not the biggest oyster fan but these were really great and citrusy. I’m more of a “I’m doing this for the vibes” type of gal when it comes to oysters but I would probably get these again over other oysters I have had.
Now, onto the more important topic…
I had two different wines this night. First I kicked off the evening with one of the rosé’s on the Summer of Sparkling and Rosé’s menu. This is the only still rosé available and it was everything you want. Light and bright and paired perfectly with the two apps we got especially the oysters. Highly recommend trying it. Then, I tried this fantastic wine from Hungary. I drink alooooot of red wine with my boyfriend because that’s all he likes so if we share a bottle we usually do red so for awhile now I have been on my white wine and rosé kick especially with the weather (I promise I’m going somewhere with this comment) so when we were moving onto our dinner dish, I needed something to stand up to the beefiness of the pizza we got. My fav bartender (shoutout Red), blindly I might add, recommended this wine to me and it worked well. It had a little more body but not closely similar to a wine like a chard because it has a lot of acidity and minerality so the acidity in the wine helped pair well with the meat while also being able to keep up with the dish and not get lost. Think about what lime does when you add it to a beef taco. All in all, I love trying new wines and this one was a definite sip on the “sip, suggest, or skip” scale we love to rank new wines at.
Overall, this was a weekend filled with delicious food, great memories, and lots of fun! We got to see some fireworks Thursday night, my boyfriend almost lite himself on fire lighting fireworks on Saturday night (he’s okay thank goodness), and even got to see some live music! I am just so grateful to have such great people in my life to make memories with. I hope you all have a great week and had a great holiday!
That’s all for now so…
Until next time wine lovers, Cheers!
