Weekly Wine(d) Up!

Take a glimpse below at one of my wine and food pairings from this weekend for inspiration with your next meal!

Another weekend, another jam packed schedule! This weekend was loads of fun and all over the map. We started out going to a Reading Phillies game on Friday with some family which was such a great time. I have never been before and while the Reading Phillies lost, it was the perfect night for some food, drinks, and baseball! Then Saturday, I will rock climbing with my cousin which was both terrifying and super difficult but all around fun. I love to try new things and while rock climbing isn’t entirely new to me, it had been quite awhile since the last time I went. We then went to a local brewery/restaurant to sit by the water and have a drink and a little lunch. Sunday was then filled with goats, beer, and German food at the Sly Fox Goat Races! It is exactly as it sounds: people literally bring goats to race (lol). This event is always so much fun and it seems to be a tradition that it rains every year but we make the most of it! This weeks blog though is focusing on a great meal we got at a place called Bar Taco!

First the food…

Let’s just say we were not shy with our order of tacos on Saturday…we ordered A LOT! But it was worth it. One thing about Bar Taco is that their tacos are smaller so if you order a bunch and share them, you can try a wide range! We got a shrimp taco, fried fish taco, ahi tuna taco, mushroom taco, chorizo taco, chicken taco, Korean beef taco, and a roasted duck taco! Like I said, we order a lot but this was all in the name of research…or at least that’s what I’ve been telling myself. In addition to that, we tried their duck birria app which is just a small duck quesadilla with a consommé on the side and their elote corn off the cob. Everything was delicious although I think next time I would skip the fish taco and the chicken taco. Nothing bad just not as good as some of the other options! The overall best was the duck taco though. It was simple, juicy, and had a great flavor. No notes just need more! Then for the best app, the corn was fantastic. It was creamy and had some spice to it but was not overly heavy which was a nice pairing with the amount of tacos we got! We then finished off with their churros for dessert and they were perfectly airy and crispy so it was the perfect end to our meal!

Now on to the more important topic…

While we did opt for their cocktails (I got a spicy marg and a watermelon mint marg both with a tajin rim of course and my boyfriend went for a mojito), I already know I would pair this meal with an off-dry Riesling or a Provence style rosé or rosé of Pinot Noir. This meal had some heat behind it so I feel like having a wine with some lighter body as well as a hint of sweetness or something fruit forward helps balance it out. I will say though, these cocktails were great. I would highly recommend the watermelon marg if you like watermelon because it tasted really fresh and the mojito was perfectly minty and refreshing!

After our date night, we went home and played a round of monopoly on the Nintendo Switch (yes, I won of course). We then watched a movie and promptly both fell asleep on the couch. Let’s just say after a long two days we were exhausted but it was still a great weekend!

Comment what you did this weekend down below! And as always, if there is a spot or a recipe you want me to check out and pair with wine, let me know!

That’s all for now so…

Until next time wine lovers, cheers!
