Weekly Wine(d) Up!
Take a glimpse below at one of my wine and food pairings from this weekend for inspiration with your next meal!
Such a fun kickstart to summer this weekend! There were so many fun memories made, delicious food devoured, and fantastic wine drank. My boyfriend and I decided it would be fun to do a little glamping this weekend (let me be clear: I am not a camper I strictly glamp) and it was so worth it! The property we stayed at was adorable and we found it on Airbnb for a very affordable price (less than $200 for two nights on Memorial Day Weekend)! The name of the camp site was Rooted Acres located in Woodbine, NJ which is only 15 minutes from Sea Isle City, NJ. If you are looking for a great place to glamp, this is it.
While the camping was definitely my speed, the real fun was all the food and wine we got to experience! The main focus for this week’s blog though, seafood and a fantastic wine pairing from a local vineyard. How can you go wrong with seafood at the beach to kick off the start of summer?!
First, the food…
On the last day of our trip, we decided to do a little beaching and fishing! In Sea Isle, they have an inlet that you can fish at but where you also can hang out on the beach. The best part: you don’t need beach tags to go there. Now sine I wasn’t planning on going into the water (I was in a jacket, sweatshirt, pants, and had a blanket on me lol) that was awesome for us so I could hang on the beach and my boyfriend could get some fishing in. After this, we went to a place called Mike’s Seafood and Dock Restaurant right in Sea Isle. Being in the area since 1911 in Sea Isle City’s Historic Fish Alley, this restaurant is a staple. They have takeout, fresh caught local seafood you can purchase to cook at home, or their restaurant right on the water with the cutest nautical charm. Their menu is massive and we have tried other things at this restaurant before, but I think this meal might have been top tier for us recently. My boyfriend opted for the Fresh Maine Mussel’s and Pasta with Homemade Marinara and I went with a bowl of Clam Chowder and Alaskan Snow Crab Legs that came with Coleslaw, Lemon, Melted Butter, and an Ear of Corn. This was the PERFECT meal to end our little camping beach trip! The Crab was seasoned perfectly with Old Bay and the Clam Chowder was creamy and filled with lots of clams and the perfect textured and cooked potatoes. The Marinara was perfectly seasoned along with the most delectable al dente pasta. The muscles I were told were also very, very good but I did not try any because I am not the biggest fan of muscles I usually prefer clams.
Now, onto the more important topic…
The wine that was paired with this dish was the most perfect local wine from Turdo Winery and Vineyard: a Grillo. Now, as I’m sure some of you know but not all, Grillo is one of my all time favorite wines. It is so crisp and light and delicious. The perfect porch pounder or couch crusher but also pairs lovely with a lot of foods because of how easy drinking it is. It has nice acidity and brightness with notes of mineral, cantaloupe, apple, and peach. I personally have only had one other Grillo from Sicily that I have loved this much so I was excited about this find. Especially since this Vineyard is the only Grower and Producer of this grape in the entire US. If you get a chance to pop over to Cape May and try this Winery and Vineyard out, it’s a must stop. They also have some other incredible wines but promise me you will give the Grillo a try!
All in all, this weekend was really fun! We got to go to a few wineries and vineyards, listen to a lot of great live music, spend time in the sunshine on the beach, and so much more. If you’re looking for what else we did this past weekend, be sure to check out my instagram! I plan to post more about this weekend to hopefully to inspire you to make a fun glamping trip down to the beach!
That’s all for now so…
Until next time wine lovers, cheers!
